Kathrine McCarthy (Director)
A.S.R.B.(Society of Russian Ballet), M.C.D.T.A., A.I.S.T.D., T.C.R.A.D., I.D.O. World Judge.
Kathrine McCarthy is an internationally well known and accomplished dancer, teacher, adjudicator, choreographer. She has won many awards for her choreography, including for Team Canada, in Ballet and Modern Formations, small groups, and Solos/Duets.
As a dancer she studied with the National Ballet School, professional program, won awards and scholarships at competitions, and has danced professionally in the UK. Kathrine has an extensive background in many dance disciplines, receiving Honours and the highest marks for her ballet, jazz, tap and modern dance examinations, all grades, including Advanced (R.A.D., I.S.T.D., C.D.T.A.). Kathrine also trained in Vocal and Drama, and has won National Awards, and Scholarships, in both.
As a choreographer Kathrine has taught internationally and choreographed for Team Canada since 2010.
Recently she was awarded the title of I.D.O. (International Dance Organization) World Judge.
Kathrine has been teaching Classical Ballet, Pointe, Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary, Modern, Acro, and Musical Theatre for the last 25 years, putting children through examinations with 100% success. She has taught throughout Southern Ontario as guest teacher and permanent teacher in several dance schools, and in the UK, and is in demand for workshops.

Lynne McCarthy (Principal)
Lynne McCarthy began her dance and performing career in England at the age of six, performing in musicals and pantomimes. Lynne modeled professionally across Europe and was the muse for Dorothy Perkins the designer. She also trained and performed with the esteemed Sadler’s Wells Ballet and Walsall Operatic Society before emigrating to Canada and continuing her teaching studies. She became a Teaching Member of the Royal Academy of Dancing, gaining her Teacher’s Certificate and Teacher’s Diploma. She is currently a Member with the Society of Russian Ballet (Vaganova) and the Canadian Dance Teachers Association. In addition to excelling in their ballet studies and exams, Lynne’s students have always, and still continue to, win many awards and scholarships. Lynne has been teaching for over 35 years and has trained teachers as well as professional dancers. She has been a Team Canada choreographer for ballet since 2006.
Courtney began her dance career at McCarthy School of Dance at the age of 3. She became a competitive dancer at the young age of 4, performed her first solo at the age of 5 and continued until she graduated high school. Throughout her competitive career she has won many special awards for dancing such as judges choice, highest jumps, great facial expression and outrageous legs, just to name a few. She has trained in many styles of dance such as ballet, pointe, jazz, tap, acro, hip hop, musical theatre, lyrical, modern and contemporary. She has been successful with exams in both R.A.D. (ballet) and C.D.T.A. (jazz and tap), consistently receiving high marks like Highly Commended and honours. She became a dance teacher’s assistant at the age of 11. She loves teaching and has a passion for children. In addition to working towards her C.D.T.A. certification for teaching acrobatic jazz, Courtney in is the summer camp instructor for McCarthy School of dance. She recently graduated from the University of Guelph with a Bachelor of Arts (Child, Youth and Family) and she is has recently graduated from teachers college.
Stephanie Truman began dancing at age six at McCarthy School of Dance and has since studied many styles, including classical and contemporary ballet, jazz, modern, acro, pointe, lyrical, and musical theatre. Stephanie graduated Cum Laude from the dance program at York University in 2014 and now holds a BFA with Honours. During her training, Stephanie achieved great success in dance competitions, including becoming the World Champion in the Ballet Duo category with her sister in 2007 and 2009. Her love of teaching has inspired her to become a Student Teacher in Training with the Society of Russian Ballet and work towards Associate status. She is also a Module One certified instructor with Acrobatic Arts. Stephanie danced for Emmy award-winning choreographer Debra Brown in Panamania, the cultural festival accompanying the Toronto 2015 Pan Am/Para-Pan Am Games. Stephanie currently teaches ballet, jazz, acro, lyrical, and modern at dance studios in southern Ontario.
Melissa Truman has trained in dance since the age of 6, studying classical and contemporary ballet, jazz, Límon and Graham modern, acro, lyrical, and musical theatre techniques. Melissa excelled at dance competitions throughout her training, twice winning a World Dance Championship title in classical ballet. She has graduated Cum Laude from York University, where she acquired a BFA with Honours in Dance. While at York, Melissa achieved grades in the top percentile which have allowed her to join the Golden Key Honour Society for academic achievement. She also received multiple merit-based awards for choreography and excellence in her studies. She has completed high level ballet and jazz examinations with the CDTA and the Society of Russian Ballet. Melissa is a Student Teacher in Training with the Society of Russian Ballet and a certified Acrobatic Arts instructor. Melissa has had the opportunity to work with outstanding artists and choreographers both at York and since graduating. She has performed professionally with Mimi Starikova, and most recently, at Panamania 2015, the Pan Am/Para-Pan Am Games cultural festival in Toronto, where she worked with Patrizia Ferlisi and Emmy award winning Cirque de Soleil choreographer Debra Brown.
Christopher has been dancing for 15 years studying under multiple instructors trained in Hip Hop, Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary and Tap. Chris has been training with some of Toronto's Top Hip Hop Mentors and Choreographers within The Male Initiative, OIP Dance Company and others across the GTA. Over the last three years Chris has been teaching Competitive and Recreational Hip Hop leading his students to receive numerous awards and overalls. He is driven to develop his students in such a way that they become professional individuals in all walks of life. Chris is known for his corky movement that he brings to his work alongside his free spirit and imagination.
Chris' credits include performances at Toronto Industry events such as Toronto Dance Expo Gala 2015,Toronto Fringe Festival, Choreographer's Ball ,OIP Gala for choreographers such as Shavar Blackwood, Chris Clarke, Alvin Collantes and Hayley Paone. He recently danced in Rihanna and Drakes newest video "work" feeling extremely blessed to be chosen among so many talented Toronto Artists.
Chris is an up and coming choreographer in the industry and continues to train with the best. Duarte students will feel they can tackle the true vibe of what Hip Hop is to the core while finding their own groove and style
Justina Aveyard trained at McCarthy School of Dance since age 4. Justina has trained in many genres of dance including classical ballet, contemporary, jazz, tap, acro, musical theatre, horton and graham, taking all of her exams from primary to advanced. Throughout her competitive dance career Justina has won numerous awards and scholarships, also winning multiple national and world titles. As a member of the Canadian National Dance Team Justina won gold in 2010 & 2011 World Cup Ballet Soloist and silver and bronze medals in the 2010-2012 World Championships in Jazz and Modern solos, along with many other group medals.Justina is currently pursuing her professional dance career having performed in many countries around the globe. She is now a second year student in the Professional Division of the internationally renowned modern dance company Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in New York City. She was recently asked to perform in a special gala in front of guests such as Mikhail Barishnykov and was also selected to work with Frank Augustyn of the National Ballet of Canada to perform as one of his soloists in a showcase. Justina has also been chosen to participate in intensives with the National Ballet of Canada, Complexions Contemporary Ballet, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, and the Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet. Justina can be seen in the Christmas Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall.
Emma has been dancing since the age of three. She joined Elite Dance Centre in 2004 and has been a part of the competitive team for thirteen years. During that time, she has not only assisted at her studio, but also Team Canada and other choreographers in many ways. She has been training in many disciplines including, jazz, tap, acro, lyrical, contemporary, hip hop, ballet and pointe. She is currently training in Grade V Checchetti ballet; in addition to her Grade I and II teachers Checchetti ballet. She will be attending Ryerson University come fall 2018. Emma’s credits include Stratford Dance Collective, Choreographer’s Ball, Emerge, Dancing for Dogs Gala, Extra on The Next Step, Productions of Cinderella and Guy’s & Dolls along with choreography for the production of Guys and Dolls. Emma is currently wishing to pursue her professional dance career having performed in various countries around the globe. Currently working with Team Canada, Emma is an up and coming choreographer in the industry.
Katie Allen loves to dance and teach at McCarthy School of Dance. She has been training at MSD since age 3, studying Ballet/Pointe, Tap, Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary, Modern, Acro, Hip-Hop, and Musical Theatre all at the competitive level. Katie also enjoyed being a member of the Canadian National Dance Team from 2010-2016 whereby she won various Gold, Silver, and Bronze trophies in Jazz, Tap, Ballet, and Modern dances in Germany and Poland. Between the World Dance Championships and her regular classes, Katie would assist and teach the Broadway Kids Summer Camps at MSD. Katie has participated in many workshops to improve her understanding of dance and enhance her teaching skills. She has also performed with Canada's Ballet Jörgen in the production of Sleeping Beauty. Katie has had the privilege of dancing under the tutelage of Matthew Clark, Breanna WIllis, and Kathrine McCarthy, all renowned Team Canada choreographers and Judges for the International Dance Organization. Recently, Katie received Honours in the CDTA Advanced Classical Ballet exam, and participated in the CDTA Teacher development course. Katie is very excited to be teaching again at MSD this year.
